Cy Twombly, Ferragosto IV
Sad news today.
Amazing artist and Washington and Lee University alum Cy Twombly died in Rome on Tuesday. He was 83. He had suffered from cancer for several years.
In 2010, he painted a ceiling of the Louvre museum, the first artist given the honor since Georges Braque in the 1950s.
I recently saw several of his sculptures in an installation at the MoMA, and it was quite weird. The good kind.
